Apartments in Abondance

Situated at an altitude of 1000 metres, on a plateau backing onto Mont Jorat (1830m), Abondance lies in a valley dominated by Mont de Grange (2432 m) and the Pic de la Corne (2084m).
In winter, when snow caps the summits, and the meadows are blanketed by snow, the slopes become very inviting and this immaculate countryside stretches out as far as the eye can see. Warm and snug inside your chalet, in the heart of the village or in one of its hamlets, you’ll have the holiday you have always dreamt of.
L’Essert is the name of the town’s ski area and it has 7 lifts and 13 runs of which there are two nursery slopes, 6 blue runs, 3 red and 2 black
Abondance is also the name of a breed of cow. They are white with markings that are a beautiful ginger shade of brown and the brown splotches around their eyes make them look as if they’re wearing big brown sunglasses. In winter, they stay in the stables, munching on hay and thinking of better days to come when the snow melts and they can move up to summer pastures in the high mountains.
The wonderful quality of these dairy cows has contributed to the farmers becoming famous cheese makers: Abondance’s cheese was awarded the AOC label (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée) in 1990. In the Abondance valley, 40 farms make this delicious cheese. And what a delight it is to buy it directly from the farm!
